Welcome to the first official Brad’s Pit. It’s going to be my new column here on SLTD Wrestling, where I’ll be talking all things WWE, TNA or UK wrestling. Pretty much whatever interests me about what’s happening in wrestling to be honest! I thought I’d kick off in typical “pit” style and get a little bit of controversy going. With that being said, after watching round 1 of what’s sure to be 1 of the best feuds in recent WWE memory, it got me thinking – what would a CM Punk win at the Rumble do for his career?
Now before anyone gets upset or pissed off, let me just say that barring only a few lame ass promos in the last year, Punk is one of the main reasons I watch Raw. His abilities in the ring are second to none. His mic skills are unparalleled, and the passion and drive he brings to every event is phenomenal, but despite all that, I really don’t think WWE are completely confident in him.
Let me explain what I mean. Think about how many questionable wins he’s had over the last few months, how many times he’s been in gimmick matches, and so on. When was the last time he had a 1-on-1 match that ended in a clean win for him?
Yes, I know he’s a heel and I know they’re designed to be squirmy little shits, but that can only work for so long. Until his segment with The Rock this past week, I really thought he was losing his flair a little (no pun intended). The last time I remember him being so good on the mic was when he dropped his now infamous pipebomb at the top of the stage, where he let rip on Cena, Dwayne, HHH, Steph and everyone else he thought was standing in his way.
I honestly believe that the WWE will either show complete faith in him and have him go over The Great One, or they’ll prove once and for all that his title run has been leading to a pay-off for someone else! In some way, I understand The Rock beating Cena, as Cena didn’t need the win at WrestleMania to continue main eventing. Cena is WWE, despite the fact he’s not held the title in well over a year! CM Punk has been the Champion for 420 days at the time of writing this post, and it could all end by making someone who’s a part-time money draw the new Champion.
Yes – I said a part-time money draw (The Rock). Yes – I am, and always will be, a Rock fan. Yes – I do have a “Boots to Asses” t-shirt. Yes – I do think The Rock is The Great One. But no – I don’t think he should be champion. No – I don’t think he should go over Punk and I’ve got mixed emotions regarding his “Finally… The Rock has come back… Home…”, then he goes off and shoots 4 films to walk straight back in to a title match?!?! Once his stint is done, who knows when we’ll see him again. It just doesn’t sit well with me. Sorry!
Getting back to CM Punk. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree that WWE are holding him back on some level?
